Robson Street's First Ever Pop-up Shop

Vancouver BC, November 27, 2015 – A small, independently-owned business is doing what few ever thought was possible – popping up on Western Canada’s most expensive retail strip during the busy holiday shopping season.
Mine & Yours, a designer fashion resale store with a permanent location on Hornby Street, has negotiated a short-term lease to “pop up” at a second location smack in the middle Vancouver’s busiest retail strip – alongside international brands and chain stores like Aritzia, Banana Republic, Club Monaco, JCrew, Aldo, Sephora, and Forever 21.
Fledgling retailer Mine & Yours sells new and “almost new” on-trend designer and luxury women’s fashion and accessories. The business has thrived since opening its Hornby Street location in October 2013 – with Vancouver women embracing its unique buy-sell-trade business model that encourages them to “recycle” their designer and luxury clothing without breaking the bank or the environment. Unlike consignment (where you wait for your clothes to sell), the store offers cash up-front for select designer items, or store trading credit. Clothing is resold at up to 80% off original retail prices.
Company Founder Jigme Love says, “Our goal was to create a ‘communal girlfriend’s closet’ where women could come buy, sell and trade designer and luxury items that they otherwise could not afford. We have grown successfully purely through word-of-mouth, but popping up at a second location on Robson Street for 60 days will enable us to get our business in front of hundreds of thousands of women, making our ‘community of girlfriends’ so much bigger.”
Pop-Up Shops are retail stores with a temporary presence, ranging from a weekend to a number of months. “Popping up” enables businesses to extend their market reach, grow sales, build brand awareness, and breathe new life into an otherwise vacant location. Mine & Yours’ pop-up shop represents a novel addition to Robson Street, and will benefit from the exposure of its prime retail location, as well as the bustling holiday season.
Teri Smith, Executive Director of the Robson Street Business Association, fully supports the addition of pop-ups that represent the right fit for the busy retail street. “It is encouraging to see a pop-up on Robson Street, as the lease rates have typically prevented this type of venture from happening. I’m excited to see a small independent business like Mine & Yours be part of the retail landscape on Robson Street, as healthy neighbourhoods need a good mix of small, medium and large-sized businesses. I expect Mine & Yours to be a great addition to the street, albeit for a short period, and I hope it opens the door for more small independents to join our community.
Love says, “It’s an honour to be the first independent pop-up retailer on Robson, and we intend to make the absolute most of our time there. We want to open up the door for other local brands to ‘pop-up within our pop-up’ for a day or weeks at a time, and to partner with as many local brands as possible during our time on Robson.”
Their first collaboration is with Wardrobe Apparel – a private styling and shopping service that brings looks curated directly from the runways of Europe to clients’ homes. Select Wardrobe Apparel pieces will be available for sale in the #RobsonPopup throughout December and January.
