anecdotes
"It's pretty autobiographical actually... I have always curiously wondered if one of my setbacks might actually be my name, the fact that my name isn't like Albert Hammond Jr. or Julian Casablancas. I always talk about those guys because The Strokes have the greatest rock names of any band to come down the pipe in the last twenty years. Maybe someone in an African country would think that David Mead was an exotic name - but to me, it's just so straight up Northern European descent, like it could be anybody's name. It's really more addressed to a lover but it's also kind of addressed to an audience too." - interview, June 3 2006
lyrics
i got a name that's hard to remember
it could be anyone scrolling on your tv screen
it's like a slogan stuck on a fender
it could be anyone rolling up and down your street
i know my story's got holes
a bad b-movie of a one man show
but I try so give me tonight
I'm trapped in the orbit of your rolling eyes
yeah i'm thinking of you and all of the things that we've pulled through
and you ought to believe i always will be there, it's a solemn guarantee
as long as you remember me

i wrote a song that's hard to remember
it could be any one hiding in your mp3's
it's like a slow dark day in december
it's nearly christmas but cold as a witch's teat
i know the rhythm don't flow
it's hard to get down to the one man show
but i try so tell me white lies
i'm red as the apple of your big brown eyes
yeah i'm thinking of you and all of the things that we've pulled through
and you ought to believe I always will be there, it's a solemn guarantee
as long as you remember me
