"In a nutshell it's pretty autobiographical, but the point of delving into that much personal history was like ... it's the story of someone taking themselves too seriously basically. So it's a tongue in cheek look at a two year period of my life. I guess it probably has all those veiled references in there just because I didn't want it to just be that - I didn't want to leave it so that the focus was so narrow that people would just think it was that. A lot of it is kind of a joke - or a joke on me basically. I remember that people thought that I said 'fucked out a baby' in the beginning... I had an issue with that because I just wouldn't write a line like that. I mean it's not the profanity, it's just the image - it's not something I could come up with. I didn't like that being misinterpreted."

from a suburban palace he walked out to freedom
enslaved to a concept in the world of a king

and baby's gone, he's smoking in a peacoat
a ship on the ocean, bird on a wing
with a poem and song written in his honor
there's a concrete assumption in the world of a king

a guitar and a girlfriend just off the turnpike
yeah the fountain of ego learned how to sing
but the truth shall engage him with heartbreak and cold cuts
in an unguarded moment in the world of a king

and baby's gone, she's dancing on a big stage
with a tear and a tutu, the phone never rings
and he can't go on, he's banging on a keyboard
with an email to jesus from the world of a king

i took a moment to remember a moonlit night
the conversation by the candlelight was free
it's never easy only trying to please yourself
i'm never happy with nobody else but me

and i'll love them forever in the world of a king"

and baby's gone. he's smoking in a peacoat

and he stayed too long, he wore out his welcome
but he's finally departing from the world of a king
it's so far behind him in the world of a king, yeah the world of a king
