Unconventional Layering

Unconventional Layering

There’s something about fall that sends warm fuzzy ideas into our wardrobes. As the colder weather rolls in, our clothing becomes more sophisticated and thoughtful and nature gives a fresh taste to all of fall’s changes in colour, flavour and fashion.

This season we’re seeing a lot of unexpected layering options, which are playful and surprising! Turtlenecks are being layered under button ups for some zest and perhaps a little throw back to the 50’s. If you don’t like the boxy-look, you can always cinch an oversized button-up at the waste.

Crippen White long button up L $95
Chloe Black Medium Faye $2000

Another big trend is the jumper (button up or shift dress) worn over a turtleneck or sweater (add colorful tights on colder days) and is the best way to get heads to turn this season. It’s youthful, playful and lends itself to the femininity of fall. Statement jackets are also a fun way to play with fall fashion, especially anything embellished like our Isabel Marant Etoile Suede Jacket ($595).

Helmut Lang Navy Dress Sz M $155

Hermes Everlyne $2250

Simply by adding a hat or scarf you can achieve greatness on days when you’re really not up for styling. Accessories can turn a haphazard outfit into something remarkable. Check out our Hermes Pleated H Scarf ($350) and these simple sweater combinations with trousers if you’re feeling a little fancy:

Wilfred Free Harringbone Pants Sz 4 $50

Celine Ring Bag $1845

Manolo Blanik BB Pumps $425

My personal favourite for the fall season is a collared dress under a round neck sweater and boots. It always looks like you tried when you have a collar popping through. Letting your creativity grow as you layer doesn’t need to be tricky, just pick out colours you know that work for you and mix in texture or print::
