Meet Bitty - From Fashion Intern to E-Commerce Associate!

Me and lil' Sophie

Oh hey there! My name is Bitty and I am so happy to be the newest member of the Mine & Yours team. I studied fashion design (with a little business and anthropology on the side) and knew that I wanted to eventually get a job doing something I love that incorporated art, culture, fashion, and maybe, if I was lucky, something that made a positive impact on the earth.

I immediately started looking for a job after graduation and tried a couple internships around the city, but nothing really felt right. I really didn't want to waste my time working somewhere that I didn't love, so I kept my eyes and ears peeled, and devoted my time to maintaining my online blog. It is with that hobby that I was able to really hone my photography skills and start to learn about html coding and SEO.
When I saw an e-commerce internship posting for Mine & Yours, I jumped at the opportunity and applied. To be honest, it was one of the worst interviews of my life! I was so nervous and excited I couldn't focus at all. Within a week they called me back, I didn't even get the position I applied for, but they saw passion through my nervous jitters and decided to give me a chance starting with one day a week!
My first day of work was a goodie. After looking (swooning) over all the products and getting myself familiarized with how things work, I got to attend and photograph a customer appreciation party. A party on my first day! That's when I knew.
Since then, my job has ranged from product photography to minor repair work, helping to manage the online store, creating signs and web content, and even helping to create Daisy, our flowery shop mannequin! It has been such a rewarding and inspiring ride so far, and each day presents new challenges (and amazing new products!) that keep me learning and adapting.
Did I mention the products? Seriously, my love affair with designer fashion has nothing but blown up since working here. While photographing the clothes, I really get to look them over and see all the beautiful precision handiwork that went into the process, the amazing pattern drafting and skilled seamstress work. I understand how complicated it is to make a bias cut dress, or sew a perfectly straight line on cow hide leather, and we have some serious gems!
Basically, I have the best job ever! I love coming to work and the people I get to work with are amazing. The office dog Sophie is my new best friend, and new, amazing products just walk in the door without announcement. I get to experience the best of both worlds: designer goods that make a positive impact on the environment, and I get to meet a bunch of awesome people that have similar ideals as me. I can't wait to see how the company grows and I'm so thankful to be a part of it!
Thanks for reading, and I'll see you around!
-Bitty
