Girl Power & Fashion Week

Girl Power & Fashion Week

I recently read an article on the Man Repeller entitled "The Fashion Industry is Trying to Address Politics" by Hayley Nahman. It chronicled the recent & fledgling attempts by various brands and companies within the fashion industry to respond to and take an affirmative stance on the recent political developments of our neighbours South of the border.

This got me thinking about Maria Grazia Chiuri's recent showing of her first collection for the house of Dior (as their first female artistic director, at that) at PFW. Her collection included T-shirts emblazoned with the words "We Should All Be Feminists."

I saw this same T-shirt on one of my favourite bloggers, Chiara Ferragni. Although NYFW is far from over, I feel that I can safely say that Chiara's look will be one of my favourites (if not my top pick) from fashion season as a whole.

I'm all onboard with a 'statement T' and am even more smitten with the idea of one that makes a bona fide statement. Adding one to a chic look, like Chiara, brings the T-shirt out of the realms of 'casual' (or even, lest I say, 'boring') and makes it a vehicle to blur the boundaries of whats casual and whats not. More than that, it renders the T-shirt a means of expressing oneself and showing a little girl power. I'm now on the hunt for a statement T, any suggestions?
