Balmain is a luxury French fashion house founded by Pierre Balmain in 1946. Hollywood royalty of the era embraced Balmain’s ‘Jolie Madame’ signature style which featured richly embroidered fabrics and hourglass silhouettes. Audrey Hepburn, Brigitte Bardot, Sophia Loren, and Katherine Hepburn all flocked to the designer for stunning, statement-making cocktail gowns. After Balmain’s death, the most influential designer in this house was Oscar De La Renta from 1993 to 2002. Today Balmain remains a respected, modern, and even edgy high fashion brand that maintains its Founder’s painstaking attention to detail and intricate design.
