Jacquemus Winter 2020/21

Jacquemus Winter 2020/21

The entire fashion industry was caught up in the same thought, how could Simon Porte Jacquemus possibly top their show held in a lavender field in Provence last Summer? The social media success of that runway show brought the luxury designer brand over 1.8 million Instagram followers! Jacquemus presented his co-ed Winter 2020/21 runway collection last week during Men's Fashion Week in Paris. The show exploded on social media shortly after, Instagram stories were filled with clips and photos of the show describing it as a true work of art. The collection was unlike Jacquemus' previous shows, which have been praised for their extravagant sets and bold designs (who could ever forget the fuschia runway?) This collection paid homage to his southern roots, celebrating simplicity, nudes, linen and just overall beautiful clothing for the people.

Naming this collection "Année 97" the french designer gave some insight into where his love for fashion design was born. - “I was 7 the day I cut a skirt for my mum out of a linen curtain. Here is the collection L’année 97,” the designer wrote in an Instagram caption. L’année 97, directly translates to The Year '97, the year of Jacquemus’ beginnings and the simplicity of his first ever designs. We love when a designer brings authenticity and personal touches to their collections.

The women waltzed down the runway in fuzzy bloomers; simplistic yet sexy dresses and over the knee boots. You've probably seen the photo of the famous Hadid sisters strutting their stuff in this collection, completely au-naturale and in matching linen dresses. The men’s looks included everything from ombre denim to linen puffer coats, all in light colours and airy fabrics.

Jacquemus Bags Winter 2020/21

If you are familiar with Jacquemus, it's probably in regards to their iconic mini handbags. This season, the designer introduced a number of dreamy new bag silhouettes, from regular sized totes to wicker versions of his illustrious Le Chiquito mini bags (we hope the mini-bag trend never, ever dies!) Cross bodies, belt bags, and harness-style bags were also featured on both men and women.

At Mine and Yours we believe in bringing sustainable options back into the fashion industry. The new Jacquemus collection introduced a sustainability aspect, that we are super excited for. After ten years of working with one fabric manufacturer, Jacquemus finally decided to push them to create a sustainable fabric for his designs. “They didn’t have a sustainable fabric that we wanted. Now, they do — because of the size of the order I can make,” he told Vogue. “It isn’t just for ecologie, it’s also people — their rhythm of work also has to have sense. I don’t say I’m a green brand or anything like that; it’s not marketing. But I think we have to think more like my grandparents did: like, we have tomatoes in the garden, so we eat tomatoes.”

“I think we have to get back to something more pure and minimal, and I’m making clothes that will last.” Pieces that can go beyond the glam of the runway and pieces that you'll have forever. That’s a part of the Jacquemus message that deserves to be heard, understood and respected.
